Today, we tend to think of hubris as 'excessive pride or arrogance', but to the ancients (particularly of the Classical, Hellenistic and Roman eras) it was a specific kind of pridefulness or arrogant behavior: it was the priest or priestess who committed sacrilege or blasphemy against the gods; it was the city or state official who stole from the public treasury for personal enrichment; it was any ordinary person who committed acts of sexual misconduct. Someone who set out to betray the trust placed in them was guilty of hubris — and a lawful victim of the arrows of Nemesis.
